Our East Side Grove Provides Fresh and Healthy Food

Planting and maintaining a fruit tree grove in the heart of Asheboro’s East Side neighborhood has not been without challenges.

First, there was the push-back from the lawn service crew.

Trees NC learned a long time ago that lawn mowing crews are often not big fans of little trees being planted in their mowing paths! But, we got that worked out.

Additional challenges -

watering 60 fruit tree seedlings spread across 3 acres in the North Carolina blazing heat of summer.

trying to handle the multiple blights that affect fruit trees

not getting too worked up when occasionally a vandal destroys a young tree

All said, we made it through. And, today our East Side Grove is providing nutritious food for a neighborhood.
